A
zea root sample is made up of two concentric rings. An outer ring
part is called cortex, and the inner part is called pith. Several
holes are found inside of the pith. These holes are speculated to be
water pipes. A few of root hairs are found on the edge of the
sample. Many nucleus are also found in the sample.

Data
Description
400x
Most cells in the part of pith are
circular, but some cells are polygonal. A few cells
appear with their nucleus inside. However, most
cells seem to be missing their cytoplasm.
400x
Cells that are located close to the
cortex part are small and denser. Some cells seem to
have cytoplasm in them.

Data
Description
400x
The cortex part, or outer part of
the root, contains cells that are bigger than cells
in the pith part. Also, more cells appear with their
cytoplasm.
1000x
One nucleus appears with its
nucleolus inside of it. Three white tiny dots are
found on the nucleolus. These dots are speculated to
be parts of the nucleolus.

In the pith part, there are several
holes which seem to be water pipes. The holes are
surrounded by cells. The cell walls act as a border.
Root Hair

Description
400x
Some root hairs are found on the
edge of the sample. These hairs are transparent and
seem to have circular end.
400x
This hair seems to be connected
with a cell. The hair seems to be darker and denser
than two hairs shown in the picture above.
