Tilia
stem looks darn similar to pine stem in terms of the color and the
shape. There are annual rings on the xylem parts. The pith parts
seem to have some colored substances. Many pith rays are also found
on the sample. The edge of the stem is basically made up cortex and periderm. The outer parts of the sample is green.
Pith

Data
Description
100x
There are many polygonal cells in
the pith. These cells seem to be overlapping since
multiple cell walls are visible. Some cells are
filled with dark green substance.
400x
This cell contains a spinal object
inside it. This spinal object is transparent.
Secondary Xylem

Data
Description
100x
The shapes and the sizes of the
plant cells appear to be various in the xylem. There
are multiple of rays visible on the image.
200x
A distinct color change seems to be
a trace of an annual ring. It looks like the cells
are getting smaller at the end of a year. However,
the cells seem to become big as a new year starts.
Expanded Pith Ray

Data
Description
200x
The pith ray continues to grow out
to the phloem parts. At the phloem part, the ray
seems to create an area that is filled with many big
cells. This area appears to be lighter than other
phloem parts.
400x
Some cells in the area created by
the pith ray seem to have weird substances inside
them. These substances look rough.
Secondary Phloem

Data
Description
200x
The cells in the phloem seem to
have reddish substances inside. The nuclei of
the cells are barely visible through the reddish
substances.
400x
It looks like several layers of the
cells are overlapping. Some cells appear to be
reddish while other green cells appear beneath the
reddish cells.
